Bias Tugel Beach

30/04/2025 17:55

Tucked away behind a rocky trail near the bustling ferry port of Padangbai lies one of Bali’s most secluded and beautiful beachesBias Tugel Beach. Often missed by travelers heading to the Gilis or Lombok, this hidden cove offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, featuring soft white sand, turquoise waves, and a raw, untouched atmosphere that’s becoming increasingly rare on the island.

The name “Bias Tugel” comes from the Balinese words meaning “cut-off sand”, referencing its relatively short stretch of shoreline framed by rocky cliffs on both sides. It may be small in size, but it’s big in charm.

The Journey to Get There

Unlike Bali’s more accessible beaches, reaching Bias Tugel requires a bit of effort—which is part of what keeps it a secret. From the main road in Padangbai, you’ll take a short motorbike or car ride to a small parking area, followed by a 10-15 minute walk along a rocky and sometimes steep path. But once you reach the end of the trail, you're rewarded with a postcard-perfect view that makes the hike absolutely worth it.

The beach itself is a clean, crescent-shaped stretch of soft white sand bordered by crystal-clear water. The waves are gentle enough for swimming, but strong enough for a bit of fun body surfing. Snorkeling is also possible, especially near the rocky edges where marine life often gathers.

Because of its hidden nature, Bias Tugel rarely gets overcrowded. Most visitors are independent travelers, couples, or locals who come to relax away from the more developed parts of Bali. You won’t find beach clubs or loud music here—just the sound of the sea and the rustling of palm leaves.

Small Warungs and Local Touches

Though it's remote, the beach does have a few small warungs (local food stalls) offering drinks, fresh coconut water, and simple meals like nasi goreng or grilled fish. You can also rent a beach umbrella or a sunbed for a small fee.

The vendors are friendly and laid-back, often sharing stories with visitors and welcoming them as if they were locals. This personal touch is part of the charm and contributes to the peaceful, community feel of the beach.

Tips for Visiting

  • Bring cash, as there are no ATMs or digital payment options.

  • Wear comfortable shoes for the short hike to the beach.

  • Visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.

  • Be mindful of the tide and currents—swim with caution.

  • As always, respect the environment by taking your trash with you.

A Slice of Paradise That’s Still a Secret

Bias Tugel Beach is the kind of place that feels like it was meant to be a secret. It's peaceful, beautiful, and unspoiled—an ideal retreat for those who want to experience the quieter side of Bali. Whether you’re sunbathing, swimming, or simply enjoying the view, this little beach offers a big reward to those willing to wander off the beaten path.
